Our stance on sustainability

We believe that all people should benefit from the best of technology. And technology makes the world better only when we make it work for people.

That’s why our mission is to help organisations translate the complexity of technology into accessible products that people love.

The work we do for our clients is in line with our vision and mission, and contributes to a better world for everyone. We don’t want to harm people and planet. And, if it’s in any way possible, we want to actually have a positive effect. Ideally, our clients have the same motivation. If they don’t, we nudge them to make the right decisions anyway, by making (ethical) assumptions and choices explicit.

Our ideal client

  • actively works to lower their environmental impact.

In our work

  • we design for low resource usage of the product; e.g. small file sizes for web pages/apps.
  • we design to lower the resource usage of the service around it; e.g. no unnecessary sending of e-commerce packages.
  • we design nudging people to use a more sustainable option; e.g. prioritising meat replacements in a supermarket webshop.
  • when considering the use of new technologies (such as generative AI), we balance the value they bring with the negative impact they might have on the environment.

At Hike One

  • we decrease the impact of our food by primarily serving vegetarian lunch, and by ordering more plant-based than animal products.
  • we decrease the impact of our travel, e.g. by taking public transport and bike when possible, or car pooling/car sharing when it’s not.
  • we use our devices as long as possible and choose repairs/refurbishment/recycling over discarding them.
