Competitive UX review

An evaluation of your product in relation to the product of competitors to identify your position in the market. The focus can be on things like usability, visual identity, content, or any other topics that are relevant to your product.

Don’t get ready, stay ready

Your brand stands for quality. Ease of use. Innovation. Elegance. Speed. Don’t let the market catch up with you: Keep an eye on technological breakthroughs, behavioural changes, and competitors’ developments to assess your own position and find opportunities.

Activities and outcomes

Consider a competitive UX review: a thorough yet relatively quick and cheap way to have (a part of) your product(s) evaluated against competitors’ products, to compare two or more products in a fair way.

1. Together with you, we decide which (parts of) your product(s) will be reviewed, and which competitor(s) to review.

2. We review the chosen products on topics like usability, visual identity and content, in order to assess trends, opportunities, and your own position in the market.

3. We deliver a detailed overview of bottlenecks and highlights, a conclusion on overall quality of your product versus those of competitors, and an actionable plan for improvement.

4. We present the results of the review to your team and/or stakeholders for maximum impact.

For a fair and structured competitive review, you can use a fixed set of heuristics or design principles such as the 10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design or the UX honeycomb.

Characteristics
User research is incidental and ad hoc.
Fragmented and outdated user journey maps.

Insights are not findable or accessible for every team.

No set of fixed methods.
Initiating fixed working methods.

Systematic.

The user journey becomes the starting point for the workflow.

Central storage of insights. Rights and access are managed.

Continuous user research, testing and implementation of improvements.
The same, interchangeable methods for collecting user data throughout the organization.

It is clear who can (and must) make the decisions.

Every product team - in all relevant chapters and departments - has the same way of working.
Hike One helpt
We start with a short audit.

We help you realize your first successes.

We give you the tools to work based on user data. We collect input from your target group.

Depending on where you are, Hike One can take responsibility while we take care of the implementation together.
We help with creating structure, defining roles and selecting the right tools.

We help to coach your (new) experts in-house.

We ensure that you can deliver consistently high quality with less effort.

Together we continuously map and manage the user journey, with responsibility increasingly shifting to your own team members.
We help you get the entire organization working based on user journeys.

We spread the gospel across all silos and we help coach the coaches.

If necessary, we help develop the business case and present it at C-level.
We are all blind to our own flaws. That's why we asked Hike One – as an experienced external party – to challenge us.
